It’s Time to SHINE

It has been a long time since we have gathered in person as a District and I am very excited about our upcoming LCMC Texas District and Youth Gatherings to be held July 30-31 at Our Saviour’s in Victoria, Texas! If you have never been to a Gathering before, then I personally invite you to come this summer for a time of worship, encouragement, inspiration, education, and fellowship. It is not just an event for pastors or church leaders. Our Gathering is intended to equip and encourage every follower of Jesus to live on mission and multiply disciples and churches!

Our theme this year is SHINE, based on Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” We have a great lineup of keynote speakers including David Drum of J17 Ministries from Tucson, Arizona; Rick and Robyn Bezanson of Amazing Grace Christian Church in Glendale, Arizona; and Ted Doering of Narrative Church in Round Rock, Texas. Enrique Estrada from Monterrey, Mexico and I will be preaching at our two worship services. Each participant can choose to attend three different breakouts from 15 different presenters. And come early if you choose to attend either the Women’s or Leadership Pre-Gathering Seminars.

A number of special guests will be joining us this year, including LCMC’s new Service Coordinator Mike Bradley from Gilbert, Arizona; LCMC’s new Coordinator for Districts and Fellowships Julie Smith from Springfield, Minnesota; LCMC’s former Service Coordinator Mark Vander Tuig from Altoona, Iowa, now representing Lutheran Asian Ministries; former Synodical President of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Jerry Kieschnick from Georgetown, Texas, now representing Legacy Deo; the Executive Director of Latin American Lutheran Mission Mariana Mendez from Laredo, Texas; the Executive Director of Lutherans for Life Scott Licht from Huxley, Iowa; and the national director of Y4Life Michelle Bauman from Columbus, Indiana.

This year will also feature our third Youth Gathering which is held concurrently. Middle and High School youth are encouraged to attend as individuals or with friends or their whole youth group! Outside of opening and closing worship, youth will have programing designed specifically for them, including games, food, music, talks from great speakers, and a fun mission outreach project at a nearby apartment complex. Travel and lodging are the responsibility of each church group or family, but we will have sufficient volunteers so parents and youth leaders can attend the main Gathering.

Registration is open and can be found on our website along with many more details: www.lcmctexas.org/annual-gathering. Cost is $60 for adults and $30 for youth if registering by July 8 and includes snacks, lunch on Saturday, and a t-shirt! I cannot wait to see you this summer at the Gathering because it’s time to SHINE!
